I see many kinds of trauma as a psychotherapist. I often cry and bleed with hurt when my clients share their wounds, hurts, and traumas. I try to imitate the compassion of Jesus and walk alongside of the trauma with you.
The most common traumas I see are due to:
- child abuse
- severe child neglect
- divorce
- deep instability of parents
- sexual abuse and assault
- emotional abuse
- accidents
- deaths
- natural disasters
- war
- racism
- health challenges
- addicitions
- first responder experiences
- bullying
- crime
- financial disasters
We will "team up" to understand the traumatized brain, get insight into survival, explore solutions for post traumatic coping, step into recovery from self-destructive patterns of coping, and find multiple pathways to healing. Resolution is our goal.
We will seek to break the unproductive cycles, bring awareness how past trauma bleeds into current relationships, and find the mindset of being an "overcomer."
Ultimately, the trauma memory will never go away. However, trauma will no longer control your life.
As a psychotherapist, I often meet clients who say, "I don't think what happened to me was that bad." Yet their history, bodies, minds, and relationships tell a different story. Trauma overwhelms our nervous system and shatters our sense of safety, trust, and self.
Do you get alarmed? Are you stuck in the past? Chances are your nervous system is still responding as if the danager is still hapenning now. It is not a sign of weakness, but a normal response to abnormal circumstances. So, finding a therapist you feel "safe with" is one of the most powerful predictors of recovery.
You are not broken. Your nervous system can learn again. Healing is like "coming home to myself." And remember to start small.
Will you courageously face your trauma? Will you let me lead you on this journey that will be worth it? Hope and confidence are in your future.
