Ask any five-year-old about what to do with mean or negative thoughts, and they'll easily tell you that if you have nothing nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all. While staying quiet is not the best option in a marriage, there are ways to voice unpleasant topics in a positive way. Simply being nice to one another is not the way to avoid marriage counseling, but when you bring an aura of positivity to your marriage, you can improve the mindset of both you and your spouse.

Building positivity in your marriage can begin by daily voicing aloud your appreciation for your husband or wife and how you feel about them. It may not seem all that important but being thanked and acknowledged regularly helps to build a more intimate relationship. Try starting with this list of phrases to show your love and gratitude towards your spouse. Then try adding on your own as you recognize other areas of your spouse that you are thankful for.

  • I love you.
  • I think about you when we are apart.
  • I appreciate all of your hard work.
  • I believe in you.
  • I trust you.
  • I am glad you are here.
  • I appreciate your help.
  • I enjoy the time we spent together.
  • I have fun with you.
  • I appreciate your positive attitude.
  • You are important to me.
  • You make me laugh.
  • You are a good parent.
  • You have good judgement.
  • You are a good friend.
  • You are a positive part of my life.
